Duke's
Mason Plumlee has been named the ACC Player of the Week, and Virginia's Justin
Anderson has been selected the conference's Rookie of the Week.
In
earning his second player of the week award this season, Plumlee averaged 24.5
points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 blocks while leading fourth-ranked
Duke to wins over NC State and Boston College. The Warsaw, Ind., native was
15-of-22 (.682) from the field and 19-of-26 (.731) from the free throw line in
the two games.
Plumlee
opened the week with a 30-point, nine-rebound, two-assist and two-block effort
in a 98-85 win over NC State Thursday. In Sunday's 62-61 come from behind win
at Boston College, Plumlee turned in his 13th double-double of the season (19
points, 10 rebounds) and made several key plays at the end of the game,
including a blocked shot, a rebound and the game-winning free throw with 24
seconds remaining.
Anderson
averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals as Virginia
claimed a pair of key ACC wins over Clemson and Maryland. The Montross, Va.,
freshman was 6-of-9 from the floor and had three steals, one blocked shot and
two assists in Thursday's 78-41 win over Clemson. Three days later, Anderson
tallied a career-high 17 points and tied a career-best with nine rebounds in
Sunday's 80-69 road win at Maryland.
Anderson
has scored in double figures in five of the last six games and over that span
is averaging 11.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and is shooting 25-of-49
(.510) from the floor and 16-of-18 (.889) from the free throw line.
