Evidently, the USC Trojans (7-6) believed their role in the football universe was worthy of more than a Sun Bowl bid against 6-7 Georgia Tech even after losing four out of their last five games. Nothing went particularly well for the Trojans after that (including the game’s outcome) who caused a controversy when they showed up late to a Sun Bowl dinner event.
The perceived slight caused USC senior linebacker Tony
Burnett (#34), to tweet this about the game, thier opponent and host city:
"Georgia Tech!?
El Paso, Texas!? New Years Eve!? FML" and "if you never seen a real
life giant tumbleweed get ready."
(In Twitterspeak, "FML" is shorthand for
"F--- my life.")
Burnett later apologized.
Hey, Tony try winning a few more games next year.
