Look, we love us some RG3 - how could you not?
But you had to figure he’d take a misstep out of his almost perfect rookie season and do something stupid like try to trademark “light you up” which is something
we you may have said to your ten-year-old son more than once just yesterday...
When RG3 declared for the NFL, he promptly created his own company, Thr3escompany, LLC, and submitted applications to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a total of four trademarks – RGIII, RG3, Robert Griffin III, and Unbelievably Believable.
Since then, the RGIII catchphrase train has rolled on. And along the way, Thr3escompany submitted applications for more trademarks, see graphic,
The trademarks cover use of the phrases on “Clothing, namely, shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, pants, shorts, jerseys, athletic uniforms, socks; hats, caps; footwear” and also “Promoting the goods and services of others, promotional sponsorship of sports and athletic events and activities.”
So don’t say “light you up,” or Thr3escompany’s attorneys will “light you up.”
