N.C. State Unveils Valvano Jersey

North Carolina State will play Connecticut next week in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. The annual event benefits The V Foundation for Cancer Research, formed by legendary coach Jim Valvano in 1993.

Of course, Valvano coached at N.C. State for 10 seasons, reaching seven NCAA tournaments and winning a national championship in 1983.

In honor of the event, Adidas and the Wolfpack are breaking out new uniforms.

The front simply says “STATE” on top of basketball netting in the background. The back, though, features “Don't Ever Give Up” -- the famous line from Valvano's inspirational speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards, a speech that he gave just eight weeks before dying of cancer. The net is reminiscent of when Valvano (or anyone else) cut down the net after winning the national championship and then hung it around his neck.
