#5 DUKE 89, Minnesota 71 – It sounds as if Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is putting together a screenplay: "The Maturation of Mason Plumlee."

So far the reviews have been great.

Plumlee scored 20 points and grabbed a career high-matching 17 rebounds to lead No. 5 Duke to an 89-71 victory over Minnesota on Thursday in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

The 6-foot-10 senior had four solid games this season before putting on an impressive performance against a team known for being physical and playing defense.  Recap.

GEORGIA TECH 54, Rice 36 - Marcus Georges-Hunt had 11 points and nine rebounds to lead Georgia Tech to a 54-36 victory over Rice on Thursday night in an opening-round game of the DirecTV Classic.

Georgia Tech opened the second half with a 13-3 run, including a 12-footer and a 3-pointer by Brandon Reed 32 seconds apart. Georges-Hunt, a freshman, capped the rally on a pair of free throws, giving the Yellow Jackets a 38-22 lead with 15:11 remaining.

Rice went 7:36 without a field goal during that stretch, which was sandwiched by 3-pointers from Owls reserve guard Austin Ramljak. The junior, who grew up in nearby Thousand Oaks and began his collegiate career at Ventura College, led the Owls with 18 points and shot 6 for 12 from the field - all of his shots coming from 3-point range. Recap.

#16 Gonzaga 77, CLEMSON 49 - Clemson gave No. 16/17 Gonzaga all it could handle for most of 40 minutes on Thursday in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic, but the Zags shot 69 percent in the second half to pull away to a 57-49 victory over the Tigers.

The Tigers lost their first game of the season and now move on to take on UTEP for a second straight season in an exempt tournament. The game will be held at 5:30 PM Friday and will be televised by ESPNU. Recap.
