Remember back after the 2008
season when the muckity mucks at Boston College fired head coach Jeff
Jagodzinski because he interviewed for an NFL job he didn’t get?
He was 20-8 at the time and BC
was an ACC title contender, but the university denied him the opportunity to
advance his career. Athletic director Gene DeFilippo told Jagodzinski
that if he interviewed for the N.Y. Jets head coaching job he would be
fired. He did and he was.
So where did Boston College
turn? They looked inside the program and hired Fran Spaziani a long time
assistant who promptly went 19-19 including a 4-8 season which broke the Eagles
streak of 12 straight bowl appearances.
Who’s next?
Debbie Yow canned Tom O’Brien who
was 40-35 (2-1 in bowl games) and logged a season’s best of 9-4 in 2010.
The question is who will Yow find
to replace O’Brien?
North Carolina seems to have
found the right man in Larry Fedora and Miami with Al Golden, but the question
remains, who is out there that is better than the guy you have now?

Heather Dinich of ESPN writes
that the top candidates for the N.C. State job are: Clemson offensive
coordinator Chad Morris, Kent State head coach Darrell Hazell, Northern
Illinois head coach Dave Doeren and Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco. A bunch of household names there…
One of those guys may be the next
Larry Fedora or maybe the next Mike London, two coaches whose teams appear to
be going in opposite directions.
Yow’s move to fire head
basketball coach Sidney Lowe has worked out brilliantly so far. Let’s see how
it goes on the gridiron.
