Nats’ Magic Number: 11

Our Washington Nationals (formerly your Montreal Expos) (89-54) defeated the New York Mets  (65-78) 2-0 last night to sweep the three game series before heading to Atlanta.  The Braves were swept by the Brewers losing again 8-2.  Now, the Nats' magic number is11.  That’s 11 to win the division and six to secure a wild card playoff spot.

John Lannan, who replaced Stephen Strasburg in Washington’s starting rotation, got the win.

The surging Nationals have won nine of 11 and 12 of 15 and now have an 8.5 game lead over the dwindling Braves.

That said, the Nats play the Braves Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
