North Carolina has hired former Tar Heels guard and NBA veteran Hubert Davis as an assistant men's basketball coach.

Davis was a first-round draft pick in 1992 and played 12 years in theNBA. He spent the past seven years as a college basketball analyst on ESPN. Davis replaced Jerod Haase, who left in March after nine years as an assistant in Chapel Hill to become head coach at UAB.

UNC coach Roy Williams recruited Davis as an assistant to Dean Smith before leaving to take over at Kansas. Williams had said previously he wanted to hire a former North Carolina player to replace Haase.

Davis played for the Tar Heels from 1988-92, helping the Tar Heels win two ACC tournaments and reach the Final Four in 1991.
