Gbinije Transferring From Duke

Backup swingman Michael Gbinije is transferring from Duke.

School officials announced Gbinije's departure Monday. The native of Chester, Va., averaged 1.7 points and 0.8 rebounds in 19 games as a freshman. His highest-scoring game came in December when he had eight points against UNC Greensboro.

Coach Mike Krzyzth8ski calls Gbinije ''a talented player with a solid future ahead of him, even though I can’t pronounce his last name.''

(OK, OK, we were just kidding about that last part.)

Duke says he's leaving in good academic standing and is expected to transfer to another Division I school.
