The Cavaliers (8-3, 5-2) are ranked at No. 24 after their first win in Tallahassee defeating Florida State 14-13 on Saturday night.
Virginia had never before won at Miami and at Florida State in the same season and Saturday they play for the Coastal Division championship.
If history is any indication, the Wahoos still face an uphill climb as the Hokies have owned the rivalry in recent years, winning the last seven meetings and 11 of the past 12.
Virginia Tech moved up to #5 in the latest B.C.S. poll behind L.S.U. and one-loss teams Alabama, Arkansas and Oklahoma State.
