ACC in MLB All-Star Game

Former baseball standouts from two ACC schools will be among the Major Leaguers taking the field for Tuesday night’s 82nd All-Star Game in Phoenix.

 Miami alumni Ryan Braun and Gaby Sanchez will suit up for the National League All-Stars, while former Hurricane Chris Perez will play for the American League. Former Georgia Tech All-America catcher Matt Wieters is also part of the AL squad. Braun, a starting outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers, will start for the National League. Braun sports a team-high .320 batting average on the year with 16 home runs and 62 RBI. 

Sanchez, named to the team as a reserve first baseman, heads into the All-Star break batting .293 with 10 homers and 50 RBI.

Perez has successfully closed 21 games in 22 save opportunities for the Cleveland Indians. He sports a 2.43 ERA and has limited opposing hitters to a collective .203 batting average in his 36 appearances.

Wieters, the starting catcher for the Baltimore Orioles, is batting .264 with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 78 games.
