Thomas, Breland, Lucas selected in 2011 WNBA Draft

Three ACC women’s basketball players were taken in the recent WNBA draft conducted on Monday.

Duke guard Jasmine Thomas was selected 12th overall by the Seattle Storm and Jessica Breland was selected 13th overall by the Minnesota Lynx and later traded to the New York Liberty.

Thomas was one of 15 players invited to WNBA Draft event in Bristol, Conn., including Connecticut senior May Moore, who was selected No. 1 overall also by the Minnesota.

"I'm excited," Thomas said. "I keep using that word."

Thomas, a 5-foot-9 senior from Fairfax, Va., led the Blue Devils in scoring over the past two seasons, becoming the team's leader and go-to play-maker. She led the Devils to a 32-4 record this season and was named the ACC tournament's most valuable player.

Her teammates Italee Lucas was selected 21st by the Tulsa Shock. Lucas, a 5-8 guard from Las Vegas, led the Tar Heels in scoring for the past two seasons.
