The Roses Of San Antone

The mayor (Dwight C. Jones) showed up wearing a noticeably neutral brown suit.  Everybody else seemed to have donned either VCU’s black and gold, Richmond’s red and blue or the newly minted "One Two Shining Moment(s)" tee shirts when the Commonwealth’s capitol and Venture Richmond held a pep rally for the two  schools along Canal Walk at the Turning Basin yesterday.

“We could not let this occasion go by without Richmond having a celebration,” Jones said.

VCU President Michael Rao and UR President Edward Ayers were anything but neutral as they arrived on canal boats festooned in school colors…

Both VCU and Richmond are headed to San Antonio for the NCAA Southwest regional college basketball semifinals. Vitale among others were adamantly opposed to the NCAA tournament selection committee’s decision to include the Rams in the field of 68.

We'd like to pull for VCU, but they face Florida State so our league allegiance requires no explanation.

Besides Leonard Hamilton and the Seminole basketball program are underrated and both deserve the national publicity shoveled upon an Elite Eight coach/team.
