According to various sources, there is a chance Duke fans will see the talented freshman Kyrie Irving take the floor in Charlotte at some point during the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The unknown, though, is how good that chance is at this moment.
After making his first public appearance in Duke garb since December this past Friday, fans were abuzz about the Irving sighting. Many thought a return for the ACC Tournament was a strong possibility as he participated in the team's shootaround at the Greensboro Coliseum on each day.
"I can't promise next week," Irving said of a return in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. "The possibility of it happening? I'm not sure. I can't put a percentage on it, but we'll see."
His encouraging remarks, which were given with quite a wide smile, were chalked up as emotionally driven by head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Though, Duke's coach would not acknowledge whether there's a possibility he would return this weekend or not, he did make it clear that a decision has not been made, nor was there a timetable in doing so.
"I think that's the emotion of missing out on being in this championship," Krzyzewski said following the game. "He's progressing very well, but we're far away from that decision. He has done well. He's worked out here every day. We're not trying to hide anything.”
