Hump Night ACC Hoops

Jontel Evans
#5 DUKE 56, VIRGINIA 41 – Duke held themselves to 56 points, but Virginia couldn’t take advantage of it, lacking the accuracy to hit the proverbial broadside of the barn with a beach ball.

Nolan Smith had 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists as the Blue Devils (24-2, 11-1) won their fifth straight, despite getting just two points from second-leading scorer Kyle Singler. The senior was in foul trouble for much of the game and didn't score his first bucket until the 16-minute mark of the second half.

Duke held Virginia to 15 second-half points and beat the Cavaliers for the seventh straight time.

Mustapha Farrakhan led Virginia with 11 points.

How bad was the Wahoo’s shooting?  Pretty bad…how about 10-30 33.3% in the first half,  6-26 23.1%  in the second half and 16-56 28.6% for the game?

GEORGIA TECH 63, Chattanooga (Mocs, 10,526 students, Chattanooga, TN) 52 – Glen Rice Jr. scored 27 points, Iman Shumpert added 19 and Georgia Tech snapped a five-game losing streak with a victory over Chattanooga on Wednesday night.

Just sayin'
Shumpert pulled down 11 of Georgia Tech's 34 rebounds. Rice now has scored at least 20 points six times since Dec. 25.

The Yellow Jackets' biggest lead was 11 points at the 7:30 mark of the first half.

With 10 turnovers in each half, Chattanooga allowed 24 points off their miscues. Deantre Jefferson finished with 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds, but he also led the Mocs with six turnovers.
