Pictures of the Day

HORSE OF THE YEAR. To almost everyone’s delight, save the connections of Blame – the only horse to ever beat her – Zenyatta was named North America's Horse of the Year for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs last night in Miami. (AP Photo)

With five Grade 1 victories in 2010 and an unbeaten 19-race streak that was ended by a head loss to Blame in the Breeders' Cup Classic, Zenyatta, at six-years-old, became the oldest Thoroughbred to win the title since Cigar in 1996. It was the second year in a row that a female runner was selected Horse of the Year. (Photo by G. Petty/T.A.H. Worldwide Media LLC at the 2010 Breeders Cup)
NICE MOM. This is the wonderfully named Tar Heel Mom winning the $100,000 Sugar Swift Stakes at Gulfstream Park last weekend.  The six-year-old mare is a Grade 2 stakes winner of $538,692.  She has hit the board in 18 of her 22 starts – 8 wins, 5 seconds and 5 thirds.  By Flatter, ouf of Perpetual Light by Kentucky Derby winner Sunny’s Halo (witnessed in person by T.A.H. Publisher/Editor), Tar Heel Mom has won or placed in 13 stakes races during her now four year career. (Photo by Horsephotos.com/NTRA)
