Friday Night ACC Hoops (It Ain’t Football…Thankfully)

Jerai Grant
VIRGINIA 63, Oregon (Ducks, 22,386 students, Eugene, OR) 48 – Well, if this matchup had come on the football field, the Ducks would probably hang that same 63 on the Wahoos defense. But, alas it was hoop.

Freshman K.T. Harrell scored 20 points and Sammy Zeglinski hit two big 3-pointers Friday night, lifting Virginia to a victory against Oregon.

Mustapha Farrakhan added 17 points as the Cavaliers (7-3) won their fourth straight despite being without scoring and rebounding leader Mike Scott. The senior low post player had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle Thursday to have pieces of cartilage removed.

Oregon (7-4) had its three-game winning streak snapped. The Ducks got 16 points from Joevan Catron but little from anyone else as they shot just 34.5 percent overall (19 of 55).

CLEMSON 61, Savannah State (Tigers, 3,820 students, Savannah, GA) 40 – Jerai Grant came off the bench to score 15 points as Clemson defeated Savannah State on Friday night.

Clemson (6-4) held Savannah State to 11 field goals and 22.9 percent shooting from the field. Grant made 5 of 6 shots from close range.

Tanner Smith scored 11 points and Andre Young added 10 for Clemson. Led by Milton Jennings' 10 rebounds, Clemson held a 44-32 edge on the boards.
