The Case For Bowl Games

We have long been advocates of a Division 1 college football playoff, but we believe there is a place in the world for bowl games and last night’s Music City Bowl proves our point.
It’s unlikely either UNC at 7-5 or Tennessee would be part of a 16 or 32 team playoff and even more unlikely that they would ever face one another in a ceded tournament. So why not let the top teams be in a playoff and let the rest enjoy the bowl season and give us thrillers like last night’s overtime thriller?

ESPN’s Bob Davies hit the nail on the head when he said something like this: Anybody who watched this game would never say there are too many bowl games.

Let the big boys bang heads in a Big Football Dance, and then let the UNCs and Tennessees of the world entertain us with exciting college football on a random Thursday night in late December…

You know, kind of like the N.I.T., but better.
