Wednesday Night ACC Basketball

Wichita State (Shockers, 11,763 students, Wichita, KS) 70, VIRGINIA 58  – J.T. Durley had 17 points, Toure Murry added 13 and Wichita State overcame a sluggish start to beat the Wahoos Wednesday in the Maui Invitational's fifth place game.

The Shockers (3-1) fell into a 14-point hole in the game's first 5 minutes, but shot their way out of it, nearly doubling Virginia's point total (66-38) from the midpoint of the first half on. Wichita State was 8 for 16 from 3-point range and had 15 assists on 22 field goals.

Virginia (3-3) finished off its up-and-down tournament with an up-down-down final game. Mike Scott had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Will Sherrill added 11 points for Virginia, which shot 9 of 28 in the second half.

MIAMI 79, McNeese State (Cowboys, 8,941 students, Lake Charles, LA) 59 – Freshman Rion Brown scored 16 points to lead a balanced attack in Miami's victory over McNeese State on Wednesday night at the BankUnited Center.

Brown, who shot 4 of 6 from 3-point range, was one of six Hurricanes to finish in double figures as Miami (3-2) rebounded from its second loss of the season Sunday at Rutgers.
