Sunday ACC Basketball

#1 Kyrie Irving
#1 DUKE 97, Princeton (Tigers, 7,567 students, Princeton, NJ) 60 – Nolan Smith scored 22 points and No. 1 Duke opened its season by beating Princeton Sunday in the first round of the CBE Classic.

Freshman Kyrie Irving had 17 points and Kyle Singler added 16 for the Blue Devils, who shot 55 percent and hit 14 3-pointers.

MARYLAND 89, Maine (Black Bears, 11,867 students, Orono, ME) 59 – Playing their third game in a seven-day span, the Terps beat Maine Sunday in the 2K Sports Classic.

Jordan Williams had 20 points and 11 rebounds, Cliff Tucker scored all 16 of his points in the first half and freshman Terrell Stoglin added 14 points for Maryland (3-0). The Terrapins led 52-29 at halftime and upped the margin to 30 with just under seven minutes left.

FLORIDA STATE 97, UNC Greensboro (Spartans, 18,562 students, Greensboro, NC) 73 – Chris Singleton had a triple-double and Michael Snaer and Okaro White each added 16 points as Florida State defeated UNC Greensboro Sunday afternoon at the Greensboro Coliseum.

In addition to his 22 points, Singleton also had a game-high 11 rebounds and 10 steals for the Seminoles (2-0) to record the first triple-double of his career. Singleton added six assists and four blocks, as well, in the winning effort.
