Tar Heels’ Burney Finally Cleared To Play

North Carolina's Kendric Burney has been cleared to play and will make his 2010 debut Saturday against William & Mary.

The senior cornerback has missed the first seven games after being suspended six games for violations of NCAA agent benefits and preferential treatment rules and then held out last week against Miami while UNC officials worked with the Suits In Kansas to determine his status.

Burney has nine career interceptions and is in his fourth season as a starter. Prior to this season, he had started all 38 games in his career and was predicted to be taken early in the NFL draft.

Burney’s return is much needed as the Heels secondary has been plagued by injuries which have further exasperated the suspensions. Safety Da’Norris Searcy suffered a mild concussion last Saturday against Miami, cornerback Mywan Jackson left the game with a groin injury, and freshman corner Tre Boston injured his ankle.
