MIAMI 87, Florida Atlantic 69 - Three Hurricanes scored in double figures as the Hurricanes used a big rebounding advantage to beat Florida Atlantic on Saturday in the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic.

James Dews scored 15 points in the first half, when Miami built a 43-23 lead. Dwayne Collins posted his second-straight double-double with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for the Hurricanes, who enjoyed a 55-31 edge on the boards. Durand Scott added 13 points and four assists for UM.

Miami had 24 offensive rebounds and shot 8-for-16 from 3-point range.

VIRGINIA TECH 73, Charleston Southern 50 – The Hokies jumped out to a 17-2 lead to start the game and went on to a 73-50 victory over Charleston Southern in a non-conference game on Saturday night at Cassell Coliseum.

Tech, which has won six straight, is 9-1 on the season for coach Seth Greenberg. The Hokies haven’t started a season this well since the 1995-96 team went 12-1 to open the year.

Delaney helped the Hokies get off to a quick start, as they opened the game by hitting six of their first nine shots, including 4-of-5 from beyond the 3-point arc. Delaney and Dorenzo Hudson accounted for all four 3-pointers, hitting two each.
