Right handed pitcher Andrew Carraway finally broke the Cavalier drought in the MLB draft when he was scooped up by the Seattle Mariners as the 353rd pick.

The senior from Marietta, GA is ranked eighth in ACC in strikeouts (87) and the only pitcher in NCAA Division I to rank among top 30 nationally in strikeouts and fewest walks per nine innings.

Carraway selection triggered a huge celebration in Charlottesville, when Wahoo Nation suddenly realized that their guy had been chosen before any player from Virginia Tech. The Hokies first pick was #356 (just three behind UVa’s Carraway), Steven Bumbry, an outfielder chosen by the Baltimore Orioles.
