BACK SAFELY ON THE GROUND: WHY CHARITABLE MAN DIDN’T WIN THE BELMONT

Short Answer: He got tired and Summer Bird was better.

Long Answer: Charitable Man (pink silks) was close to the pace and poised to make a move in the stretch when Dunkirk drifted out and caused him to check up temporarily halting his momentum. At that particular moment, Charitable Man appeared to have one singular, and perhaps, surprising thought…

“Holy s***! This is a long damn race!”

He never got going again and clearly he was a fatigued horse at the end of the 1 ½ mile Belmont Stakes.

Nothing to apologize for as he’s a nice horse who ran a credible race. The winner was a little better on Saturday…

His trainer says he’s no worse for the wear and will now focus on getting to the $1 million Travers Stakes in August at Saratoga.
