With 9:44 left in the game Tyler Hansbrough had 5 points, but hadn’t scored a basket. It was a three point game, and the Tar Heels' (21-1, 6-1 ACC) leading scorer was sophomore Deon Thompson with 10 points.
When it was over, the junior forward had 22 points and a career-high 21 rebounds. What happened in between (thank you XM radio) was whacky.
Point guard Ty Lawson left the game early with a sprained ankle. The Tar Heels subsequently committed 21 turnovers, and that kept the score low and the Noles in the game in spite of the fact that the Heels out-rebounded FSU 50-25!
Florida State's Ryan Reid made a deep three-pointer with 8.1 seconds left that sent the game into overtime. It was the first attempt of his CAREER.
Carolina's Danny Green picked up the scoring slack making a three-point play with 2:53 left in the overtime igniting the 10-2 run that doomed the Seminoles (13-10, 2-6).
Hansbrough had eight points and five rebounds during overtime.
