Virginia Tech beat UNC twice last year, including once in the Dean Dome. Seems like everybody forgot about that except the Tar Heels. No doubt, Ole Roy had that hangin’ on the bulletin board all week. Hence the buzz saw treatment.

Tyler Hansbrough had 23 points while Wayne Ellington added 19 to help the Tar Heels beat Virginia Tech 92-53, avenging last season's sweep by the Hokies with a start-to-finish dominating performance.

Danny Green added 12 points despite battling the flu for the Tar Heels (24-2, 9-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who shot 50 percent and held a 54-24 rebounding advantage while turning in what coach Roy Williams called their best defensive performance of the season. It allowed the Tar Heels -- who led by as many as 47 points -- to start emptying their bench with about 4 1/2 minutes left and give their worn-down regulars a chance to rest.

There were a number of statistics of note, but none more compelling than rebounds – UNC 49, VT 21. Game over.

"I don't have a chart in my office ranking my embarrassing losses," Greenberg said. "You can take these and flush them down the toilet.
