Duke sophomore center Brian Zoubek, for the second time in six months, fractured the baby toe in his left foot. He injured the foot in practice on Monday but he is not expected to need surgery.
Zoubek did have the fifth metatarsal of his left foot surgically repaired two days after he suffered the first fracture back on July 9. There is not yet a timetable for his return from this second injury but Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said Zoubek would resume playing as soon as he is physically capable.
“This is a setback for Brian and for the team,” Krzyskdjbn2ski said. “He worked hard to recover from the injury over the summer and was beginning to solidify his role with the team.”
The 7-foot-1 center is averaging 4.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-high 59.5 percent (22-of-37) from the field this season.
