Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs made his second, and, we presume, final retirement official at a press conference yesterday afternoon. Coach Joe, who came to the rescue of the franchise in a post-Spurrier chaotic state, now want to focus on his family. Gibbs’ grandson Taylor is in a two-year remission stage from leukemia. On top of his NASCAR endeavors, the Gibbs family is also launching a motorcycle racing team. Surely, the brutal schedule of an NFL head coach played into his decision.

While we were occasionally frustrated by Gibbs play calling and time management, his leadership through the Sean Taylor crisis and the subsequent four game winning streak that launched his beleaguered team into the playoffs demonstrates the leadership qualities. He was like a security blanket of sorts...What next?
Good luck, Coach Joe.
