THE RIDDLE WATCH

There might come a day when a 49-32 loss to anybody -- even Appalachian State -- will be considered entirely unacceptable to Elon, but for now, it’s no big deal. Scott Riddle and the Phoenix have lost two games to teams that have defeated Michigan and West Virginia.

Elon, playing entertaining football before a record home crowd of 13,100, probably needed to be perfect Saturday to defeat the Appalachian State who was suffering a bad case of the Red A$$ after being upset last weekend by Wofford.

Riddle was again productive, but burdened by two interceptions – one of which was returned for a touchdown and a 42-24 Mountaineer lead. Along the way, Elon receiver Michael Mayers set a Southern Conference record with 387 all-purpose yards.

Riddle was 32-51 for 307 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

"We can go two different ways on this thing," said Riddle, a true freshman from Eastern Randolph who threw for 307 yards. "We want to go the good way, win the rest of our games and go 9-2.

Here’s a nice piece on the Riddle family from Fox Sports:
